Angelo Residence
The challenge of this project was striking a balance between the preservation of the original modern features of a residence designed in 1957, the accommodation of new program elements, and a vision for an enhanced exterior expression.
Ipe wood slats are a unifying element, wrapping the exterior and into the interior of the house, and reemerging at the back of the house. The horizontal slats serve as a shading device on the exterior, and as a wall shelving treatment on the interior before terminating as a privacy screen separating the view from the rear terrace to the master bedroom. Four bedrooms and five bathrooms are organized into separate wings divided by a central living space. A raised terrace lifts from the backside of the zero-edge pool to create a large gathering space for outdoor entertaining.
